Run for the Cure II
I'm sure the thousands of other Ottawans outside Parliament Hill this morning would agree that it was a beautiful day for a run, and that such great weather was symbolic of the hope that's generated for those affected by breast cancer through these sorts of events.
Unfortunately, none of our twelve team members from NPSIA brought their digital camera with them, so I don't have any pictures to offer you. However, if you can imagine a slightly smaller, but far pinker, version of the Sun Run framed by the Ottawa River, the Parliament buildings, downtown Hull, a clear blue sky and a sea of pink and white runners, then perhaps you'll be able to imagine what it was like.
Our team - half walkers, half runners - generated over $2000 through our online fundraising efforts. After finishing the surprisingly short 5km course through downtown Ottawa and Hull by 930am, we all walked away not only with those recognizeable t-shirts (emblazoned with 'NPSIA' on the back, of course), but also with the memories of those we've lost closer to our hearts and the hope that we've helped contribute to finding a cure for this disease in the future.
Deviating slightly from the genuine but sappy monologue, former Deputy PM John "Fundraising Run" Manley made an appearance on centre stage in his all-too-short runnings shorts and impeccably trendy fanny pack this morning. Mark my word: he's far from out of federal politics, yet.
